The theme is simply "AI," and the most honest way to engage with it was to hand the whole map over to ChatGPT and see what came back: a set of fictional visualizations of Utah's lakes, rivers, and reservoirs under hypothetical water-resource change. No ArcGIS, no real data — just a prompt.
An experiment, not a map
Look closely and the cracks show immediately: place names come out garbled ("Great Saat Salt Lake"), invented labels sit next to real ones, and none of it is backed by an actual dataset. It's visually confident and geographically meaningless at the same time — which is exactly the point.
Why it's worth keeping on the site
AI image generation can produce something that looks like a map in seconds, but it's a reminder of what that shortcut skips: real data provenance, coordinate accuracy, and the judgment a trained GIS professional brings to turning raw data into something people can actually rely on. Interesting to look at; not something to plan around.
